Film Maker Scholarship Award

Broad Ripple High School | President of Men of Ripple

  • Bachelor’s Degree candidate Communications School of Liberal Arts Indiana University (Final Year).

  • Successfully completed Master Class in directing at 21st Century Fox with the late John Singleton.

  • Directed Blood in Woods film, held sold out screening hosted by Butler University.

  • Directed Home Before the Holiday film which screened at the Indiana Museum of Art.

Five Year Look Back

  • Home Before the Holiday later aired on network television in Central Indiana (2018).

  • The Camp documentary film was selected and screened at the Indiana Black Film Festival (2015).

  • Directed television mini-series Save My Soul on WHMB Channel 40, becoming the first successful original drama series on the network, majority Black cast.

  • A Time Alive short film successful screen at the 2016 Indiana Black Expo International Film Festival.

  • Jewish film, The Dreidel featured at 2020 Circle City Film Festival, written and directed.

  • Currently co-directing series New York-based film Obstruction of Justice.

  • Mallory directed the documentary film IN Closing set for release this Fall.

 

Scholarship: to assist aspiring filmmakers in taking the first steps towards realizing their goals in the cinema discipline. The award is for the student who has demonstrated a serious interest in pursuing a career in filmmaking.

 

Bio: Writer/Director/Producer) Ira Mallory started making films following the death of his mother, Barbara Jean Wilburn to breast cancer, elevating his gifts in the visual arts to a professional level. He is an alumnus of the Fox Searchlight’s Director’s Labs in association with the American Black Film Festival under the instruction of John Singleton and Zola Mashariki. Mallory attended Indiana University majoring in Communications and Media Studies. With the formation of his production company, BJYL Productions, (Barbara Jean’s Young Lion) Mallory has directed over 30 commercials, videos, and movies including five short films and two feature-length projects.

 

Ira’s films have screened consecutively at the Indiana Black Expo Film Festival, including the films The Camp and A Time Alive. Ira’s feature film Home Before the Holiday has aired on television

in the Midwest market Christmas 2018. Ira also co-directed season one of the television series Save My Soul. His latest directorial work includes the much anticipated Hanukkah movie The Dreidel, available now on Amazon Prime. Mallory’s newest documentary film In CLOSING premieres this Fall.
